The Best Farmers Markets in PittsburghWarm weather brings the return of farmers markets, the perfect source for fresh, organic fruit, vegetables and flowers. If you haven’t been to these Pittsburgh farmers markets, you’ll want to make the trip before the summer season ends.

Shadyside Farmers Market

Behind William Penn Tavern, 739 Bellefonte St., Shadyside

You’ll find everything you need in Shadyside’s shopping district, including farm-fresh produce. The third annual farmers market is held every Sunday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. through September 30. Vendors include Simmons Farm (produce and flowers), Apothecary Muse (soap and skincare products), Olive & Marlowe (flavored olive oil and balsamic vinegar, Old Time Farm (meat and poultry) and Bushel and Peck Farm (produce, eggs, maple syrup).

Market Square Farmers Market

Forbes and Market Streets, Pittsburgh

There’s no need to stop at the grocery store on the way home, when the Market Square Farmers Market offers everything you need to make dinner. Held on Thursdays through October from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the market is a favorite of Pittsburghers who work in nearby office buildings. More than 30 vendors participate in the market, although the list varies from week to week. In addition to fresh fruit and vegetables, vendors offer bread, cheese, baked goods, meat, fudge, hard cider, wine, pickles and prepared foods. If you time your visit between 11:30 and 1:30, you can enjoy a live musical performance while you shop.

Wesbanco Uptown Farmers Market

710 Washington Rd. Mt. Lebanon

Mt. Lebanon Farmers Market, started by the Mt. Lebanon Lions Club 30 years ago, is held through the end of October on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m.  The Wesbanco Uptown Farmers Market offers produce, meat, herbs, honey, soap, baked goods, wine, whisky and another products from 9 a.m. through noon every Saturday through October 27. 

Sewickley Farmers Market

St. James Parish Parking Lot - 200 Sewickley St., Sewickley

The Sewickley Farmers Market continues to offer produce and other products after other area markets have closed for the year. It’s held every Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. until November 17. In addition to fruit, vegetables, honey, baked goods and other local products, vendors also sell freshly made pierogies.

Fox Chapel Farmers Market

Shady Side Academy Senior School - 423 Fox Chapel Rd., Pittsburgh

The Fox Chapel Farmers Market not only offers produce and products from local vendors, but also includes items from the schools own SSA Farm. In addition to all of the usual famers market fare, the market also offers wood-fired pizza, small-batch hummus, homemade ice cream, preserves, jewelry, candles, live music and games of corn hole. The farmers market is held on Wednesdays from 3:30 until 6:30 p.m. through October 24.
